Betty Grecoe, an avid birdwatcher will demonstrate through digital images and lecture the birds you can expect at your feeder, how to feed them and most importantly how to landscape and plant to attract those birds. She will also bring information about another nocturnal flying mammal. Hand carved birdhouses will be available.

Sandy Sears, assisted by June Baser, will lend their considerable talents in leading this workshop. We will be designing a Thanksgiving arrangement in a container that can be changed for any season. If you are pre-registered, you will take home this lovely addition to your holiday decorating.

Immune Teas for the Winter Months

What better way to spend a cold winter night than to learn about teas that will improve your health and taste good. Margi Flint, a practicing herbalist with 30 years of experience, will explain about the different healing teas with sampling for everyone. Her credentials include teaching Herbal Pharmacology at N. S. Community College and a Master’s course on Natural Products at the Mass. College of Pharmacology.

Guest Night – Bring a Friend
We will have a first hand look at the behind-the-scene preparations for the Museum of Fine Arts “Festival of Art and Flowers.” You will see selected views of the outstanding floral arrangements created to complement chosen Museum masterpieces. Along with the power point presentation, a Senior Associate floral designer will create a floral interpretation of a print from the Museum’s collections. A lucky person will go home with this design.

Guest Night ~ Bring a Friend
Well-known Master Gardener and lecturer for the Mass Horticultural Society, Paul F. Split, will present his program on, “Raised Bed Gardening”. As more people want to grow their own vegetables, but don’t have a lot of space, Paul will show what can be done in a relatively small area. One lucky person will leave this evening with one of his 14” moss lined baskets with chain and hook. Everyone will receive a packet of his special ‘Split-mix’ growing medium.

A Rose Bouton Wreath

Nancy Engle will lead us in making a fragrant wreath out of pink rose boutons, approximately 7” X 7”. We will learn about Rose Water, its uses in cooking and cosmetics and sample the purest Rose Oil in the world. There will be a demonstration on doing your own “rose facial.” Herbal refreshments will be served. If you are pre-registered, you will be taking home this fragrant wreath.

Ongoing Club Projects
Arbor Day: Sponsor an educational program at the five elementary schools in Danvers in partnership with the Town of Danvers. Distribute seedlings and help with information on planting. Plant a tree on public property each Arbor Day.Involves the school children and town workers for a true collaboration of efforts in civic responsibility.
Christmas Tree: Decorate a tree in Danvers Square in December with handmade wooden ornaments, velvet bows, and lights. Sponsor a tree lighting ceremony in Danvers Square for everyone to enjoy during the holiday season.
Children’s Garden: This garden located at the George Peabody Institute Library and seen from the windows of the Children’s Room, The Children’s Garden was planted by and is to be perpetually maintained by, the Past President’s of the Danvers Garden Club.
Civic Development: The Club organizes the Hanging Baskets in Danvers Square, plants and maintains the Well-Sweep at the junction of Maple and Poplar Streets, the Centre Street island and the Route 62 town line sign. The club also plants and maintains the garden at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on Liberty Street. Beneficiaries are all who drive by and enjoy beauty and color.
Conservation: Annually the club partakes in the District conservation project as well as our regular conservation efforts such as: ink cartridge and paper re-cycling, energy conservation (change light bulbs),
Design and Horticulture: Monthly mini-demonstrations in conjunction with INTRA-CLUB competition and occasional workshops.
Garden Therapy: Monthly programs for the nursing home residents at:
- Harborside Healthcare - Cedar Glen 44 Summer St.
- Harborside Healthcare - Twin Oaks 63 Locust St.
- Radius Health Care – 56 Liberty St.
- Hunt Nursing and Retirement Home – 90 Lindall St.
Items needed for programs: Stuffed animals, beads that can be put on over the head, perfumes, large print puzzle and word search books, notepaper, cards with stamps, playing cards, clip earrings, talcs, soaps, and toilet articles for men. Used gifts should be in good condition.
Please bring stamped Christmas cards to our October and November meetings. Members benefit the most from this ongoing club project, thoroughly enjoying the socializing, singing and camaraderie during these visits.
This group usually meets the 2nd and 3rd Tuesday of the month. Contact the chairperson for time to meet.

Historic Preservation: Continue to help beautify Glen Magna. Maintain the herb garden at the Peabody Institute Library for the enjoyment and education of Danvers residents.
Holiday Greens Sale: The club will raise funds for its community service projects with a Greens Sale in December where the public comes for their holiday decorations.
Junior Gardeners: The Danvers Garden Club sponsors a Junior Garden Club. This Club is open to the daughters/sons and grandchildren of members. The group meets regularly and develops an appreciation and awareness of the beauty of plants, trees, and flowers, and a concern for the environment. The children learn a great appreciation for materials and placement and are so proud of their accomplishment.
New Club Projects 2009-2010
- Plant Sale: The Club will sponsor a plant swap/sale, among members and the general public in spring 2010. The date, time and place will be announced. This benefits garden club members and the community
- Save a Tree: Each monthly meeting the conservation chairperson will collect any un-necessary papers, for re-cycling. This benefits our environment.
- “Care to Share” Program: Each month members bring in magazines and add them to our sharing table for any member to take home and enjoy. Our members and the environment benefit from this program.
